UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 08 January 2007



The situation in Dili remains relatively calm, with some sporadic outbreaks of violence around the city. It has been reported a domestic violence case in Motael which caused some minor injuries to the victim who were dragged around by her husband in a motorbike.

Three cases of stones throwing were registered in Benomuk, Comoro at Beach Road area and Vila Verde, in all cases the suspects were not identified, and had caused only minor damages .

A hand grenade was found in Dili at Delta 4 area by a member of the community who called the UNPOL to handle that situation. GNR was requested to the scene and confirmed that it was a hand grenade for military use. The grenade was found intact.

Three females, related to each other, have died at a Liquica's sub district due to arson in their house. UNPOL officer are still investigating. A forensic team has been dispatched to Maubara to conduct further analyzes at the crime scene.
