UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 02 March 2007



Yesterday, during the afternoon, a fight occurred in Bairo Pite area, leaving four people injured. During the night an abandoned house was set on fire in Kampug Merdeka. On Banana Road, six houses were irrigated with fuel, but the attendance of ISF prevented the worse. Ten people were arrested yesterday, under the charges of riotous behavior and rock throwing in Kampung Baru area.

Today, since early morning, problems have been reported in Delta area. Rock throwing and fights were frequent and a house was set on fire. The situation as calmed during the afternoon, after the police arrested five people involved in the disturbances.

Whenever you see that a fight or a rock thorwing incident is going to happen call the free emergency number and inform the police, giving important details, such as the exact location of the incident, the number of people involved and if possible, what is their intention.
