During the past 24 hours, several reports of fightings and rock throwing around Dili stained the first day of the year.

In yesterdays morning, a fighting involving 70 people in Ailok Laran, resulted in nil injuries and six people were taken to the police station for identification. In Hudi Laran, a rock throwing between 150 people left one injured. The groups were dispersed by the attending UNPol units.

During the afternoon the amount of people visiting the beach provoked a traffic jam on the beach road and a small rock throwing incident near CazBar. People under the effect of alcoholic drinks made some disturbances in Taci Tolu area.. Some reports of tension between martial art groups in Comoro engaged the Police in extensive patrolling around the area to prevent any confrontations.

The day also recorded several traffic accidents, and unfortunately two deaths in Los Palos, 6 victims in Hera Road and one in Comoro. We remind people shouldn't drink and drive. Not only your life is at stake. Be responsible and cautious. Call 112 or 7230365 to request police presence or to report a crime. Communicate all suspicious situations and help us to make your community a safer place.
