This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to
provide you with information about the security situation around the country.
The security situation in Timor-Leste has been generally
calm.
Earlier today in Dili, UNPol attended six incidents,
including a robbery at the house of a UN Police Officer in Fatuhada and a
drunken fight between two men in Mascarenas.
The results of the Dili University entrance examination were
also released today. Police were on alert in case of any associated
disturbances, but the situation remained peaceful.
There were sporadic incidents of rock throwing on Tuesday in
Dili, but the situation in the district remained generally calm. Police
arrested seven people: three in Fatuhada for possessing illegal weapons, two on
suspicion of theft in Formento, and two for causing public disturbances in
Caicoli and Kampung Baru.
Two houses were destroyed by fire on Tuesday in Viqueque district;
one in Vesuro village and one in Afolcai village. No-one was injured in either
fire, and it is not yet known whether either fire was started deliberately.
Police are investigating.
Also on Tuesday, police received a report of a fight taking
place in Ermera town. Police were dispatched to the town and brought the
situation under control. Some witnesses reported hearing gunshots, but police,
with the support of the international security forces (ISF), have been
searching the area and have been unable to find any evidence of a firearm being
used.
The Police advise to avoid travelling during the night to
the most affected areas. Please report any suspicious activities. You can call 112 or 7230365 to contact the
police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
