This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to
provide you with information about the security situation around the country.
The security situation in Timor-Leste has been generally
calm, although a man has been shot in the leg in Ermera.
On Sunday in Ermera sub-district, UNPol received a report
that a 24-year-old man was being treated in Gleno hospital for a gunshot wound
to his leg. According to the victim, he and a friend were attacked by an
unknown assailant on the night of 6 October. The wound is not serious, and the
victim has been discharged. Police are investigating further.
Earlier today in Dili, UNPol attended seven incidents,
including a gang fight on Banana Road. Reports indicate that the gang was
planning to attack residents in the area, but the gang members fled upon the
arrival of the police and the international security forces (ISF). Police also
monitored a march by 50-70 students protesting against the political situation
in Myanmar. The peaceful march started in the campus of Dili University and
finished outside the Chinese embassy. It remained calm throughout.
Dili remained calm on Sunday. Police arrested two people:
one for assault, and one for being drunk and disorderly. Both arrests were made
in the Comoro area.
The Police advise to avoid travelling during the night to
the most affected areas. Please report any suspicious activities. You can call
112 or 7230365 to contact the police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
