UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 04-07 January 2007



Sunday, January 7, 2007 Yesterday, the Government of Timor Leste held a concert in front of the Government Palace in Dili. The event gathered about 600 government officials and guests. UNPol provided security and no incidents were reported. One person was arrested during the afternoon for drunk and disorderly behavior.

During the night, UNPOL attended to a case of assault in Aimutin. A male, aged about 50 yrs old, was found with slash wounds on his back shoulder and right hand. He was conveyed to Bairo Pite Clinic where he received outpatient treatment. The case has been forwarded to Investigation.

In Covalima, a male person was kidnapped from his residence in the village of Naigidal by masked men. He was found dead at an area near the river where he had sustained machete wounds on his body. Investigation is currently in progress.
