This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to
provide you with information about the security situation around the country.
The security situation in Timor-Leste has been generally
calm, although a man was killed in a domestic dispute in Lautem.
On Sunday, a 30-year-old man was killed when a 45-year-old
woman stabbed him through the chest in a domestic argument in Meina village,
Lautem. Police have arrested the suspect, who has confessed to committing the
crime.
Over the weekend, the PNTL Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR)
arrested seven people in Watolari and Viqueque sub-districts in connection with
the arson attacks that have taken place in Viqueque district over the last
couple of months: three PNTL officers were arrested on Saturday, and a further
four people - two PNTL officers and two civilians - were arrrested on Sunday.
All seven suspects have been transferred to Baucau where they will face trial.
Earlier today in Dili, UNPol attended seven incidents, and
arrested one man in Bidau Santana on a charge of assault.
There were sporadic disturbances in Dili on Sunday,
concentrated in the Comoro area. Police arrested six people: two for assault,
two for rock throwing, one for illegally blocking the road, and one for
identification purposes.
On Sunday in Leorema, sub-district of Liquica, a fight broke
out between six men at a community party. One man sustained serious injuries in
the fight, and has been transferred to Liquica hospital. His injuries are not
thought to be life-threatening.
United Nations police officers in conjunction with the PNTL
and the international security forces remain fully deployed to respond to any
disturbances that may emerge.
