This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to
provide you with information about the security situation around the country.
The security situation in Dili and across the country today
has been calm. There were however sporadic disturbances in Dili last night.
Yesterday at around 2140hrs, a group of people burnt tires
and threw rocks on the road to Mascarenhas near the UN Obrigado Barracks
compound. UNPol and Formed Police Units responded, and the group dispersed,
only to reform in Vila Verde near the cathedral at 2240hrs. Here they threw
rocks at houses, until dispersed by Formed Police Units, who fired three
warning shots. There are no reports of any injuries, but a UN Police car was
damaged by rocks approximately one hour later in Vila Verde. One person was
arrested.
Today in Dili, UNPol conducted a total of 43 patrols and
were required to attend three incidents. None were serious. They included two
traffic accidents and a minor public disagreement.
There are no reports of any serious security incidents
taking place in the districts yesterday.
The UNPol Election Security Plan is currently in Phase Four,
the post-polling phase. UNPol, PNTL and Formed Police Units remain deployed and
are on stand-by for any post-polling clashes or victory processions. The
International Stabilization Forces are also on stand-by, ready to be deployed
on request.
The Police advise to avoid traveling during the night to the
most affected areas. Report any suspicious activities and avoid traveling the
areas affected by disturbances. Call 112 or 7230365 to contact the police 24
hours a day, seven days a week.
This has been a daily broadcast of the UN Police in
Timor-Leste, for the people of Timor-Leste.
