UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 13 September 2007



This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about the security situation around the country.

The security situation in Timor-Leste has been generally calm.

Earlier today in Dili, UNPol attended seven incidents, including two traffic accidents and two unconfirmed reports of fighting. None of the incidents were serious.

Two arrests were made in Dili on Wednesday. One man was arrested in Colmera for impersonating a PNTL officer, and another was arrested near Obrigado Barracks on suspicion of fraud.

Police in Watulari sub-district, Viqueque, received a report on Wednesday of three suspected cases of arson in Vessouru village. Two houses and the kitchen of one house caught fire at different times over the course of the day. A suspect has been identified in one of the cases, but the causes of the remaining two fires are not yet known. There are no reports of any injuries.

In Quelicai, Baucau on Wednesday, police arrested a man on suspicion of assault. He is now in police custody.

United Nations police officers in conjunction with the PNTL and the international security forces remain fully deployed to respond to any disturbances that may emerge.
