UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 01 January 2007



Yesterday evening, a group of people tried to sexual assault one Timorese female. The Police was able to locate one of suspects who was arrested. In Mercado area, one Timorese in possession of darts was arrested.

Three males were arrested in Bairro Pite in possession of slingshots and bladed weapons. They might have been involved in a previous fight in that area in which a Timorese male was seriously injured.

Last night, on the beach road, an F-FDTL vehicle ran over an Australian citizen. The vehicle flew away from the scene , leaving the victim seriously injured.

There were several reports of fighting, in Dili surrounds, during early morning. Today has been a quite busy day for Police, with several rock throwing incidents. In Hudi-Laran, about 150 people were involved in a fighting. In Bidau Santana, one man has been arrested for riotous behavior.
