This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to
provide you with information about the security situation around the country.
The security situation in Timor-Leste as a whole has been
calm, but Viqueque and Lautem remain tense.
United Nations police officers (UNPol) in conjunction with
the national police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) and the International Stabilization
Force (ISF) remain fully deployed to respond to any disturbances that may
emerge.
Today in Dili, UNPol attended eight incidents, none of which
were major. They included a fight between two groups at around 1125hrs, and a
burglary in Sakura Towers. Three arrests were made in yesterday in relation to
drunken and threatening behavior.
UNPol have received no reports of any serious security
incidents taking place yesterday in the districts.
The interagency humanitarian working group will tomorrow
conduct humanitarian assessment missions to the affected areas in the eastern
districts to assess the need for food, shelter, protection, child protection,
education, health and nutrition, and water sanitation. The Government and UN
assessment missions will provide a comprehensive analysis of the effect that
violence has had on these areas, and will produce detailed list of what the
people there need, with a view to meeting these needs as soon as possible.
The Police advise to avoid traveling during the night to the
most affected areas. Please report any suspicious activities. You can call 112 or 7230365 to contact the
police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
