UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 20 September 2007



This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about the security situation around the country.

The security situation in Timor-Leste has been generally calm.

Earlier today in Dili, UNPol attended seven incidents, including a fight between two men in Comoro. Police arrested one man, and took the other to hospital to receive treatment for a head injury.

The situation in Dili on Wednesday was calm. Police arrested one man for rock throwing in Aimutin. 

In Watulari on Wednesday, the PNTL Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) arrested a further suspect in connection with the arson attacks in Viqueque in August. Police had an arrest warrant for the suspect from the Prosecutor-General. The suspect, who is a PNTL officer, has now been transferred to Baucau. A total of eight people have been arrested this week in Viqueque in connection with arson attacks.

On Wednesday in Gleno, a man was seriously wounded in a domestic dispute. He has been taken Gleno hospital, and police have arrested his brother-in-law.

In Baucau on Wednesday, police responded to a report of a robbery in Seiçal village. They made a total of 14 arrests in connection with the robbery and managed to recover a stolen goat.
