UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 18 February 2007



Yesterday, the Police arrested 20 people, charged with damage, possession of offensive weapon, riotous behavior and assault. These arrest occurred in Dili, namely in Kampung Baru, where fightings were frequent during the current period. Three houses were set on fire in Fatuhada.

Today, in the morning the police arrested more six people for the possession of offensive weapons, who were involved in fightings in Kampung Alor.

We request people to remain calm and avoid the conflict and problematic areas. Call the police whenever you suspect some incident is about to happen. Use the emergency line, 112 or 7230365, as soon as possible, giving the most accurate information. Help us to keep your community a safe place.
