UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 13 February 2007



The third suspect of the homicide of the PNTL officer on the 21st of January in Ailok Laran has been arrested today in Bairro Pite area. The suspect is a local male of 18 years of age. The other two suspects remain in pre-trial detention, after being detained during the anti-gang police operation in the beginning of the month.

Yesterday, several houses were set on fire, four in Fatuhada, near Radio Falintin Road, one abandoned house in Bairro Pite, and three houses in Hudilaran. In four cases the fire was extinguished with the help of bombeiros.

In the afternoon, a patrol unit sighted a group of youths holding slingshots. One of the officers was injured by a rock thrown by the group, and one suspect was arrested.

During the night fightings occurred in the areas of Fatuhada and Bairro Pite, where a man was arrested for the possession of illegal weapons.

In Liquica, two houses were damaged. The police are investigating both cases.
