The situation across the country has been calm, although
last night the F-FDTL fired warning shots to prevent an attempted rice robbery
in Dili.
Today, UNPol made a total of 52 patrols, and attended two
incidents. Neither was serious.
Yesterday, at around 1138hrs, the F-FDTL was escorting rice
delivery trucks when approximately 10 people tried to steal rice from the
convoy at the Farol intersection in Dili. The F-FDTL fired two warning shots as
a response. UNPol has investigated the incident and has found no evidence of
any injuries.
In the districts, UNPol, Formed Police Units and the
International Stabilization Forces have been transporting ballot material to
counting centres and back to Dili by road and by helicopter. The only incident
was in Lautem, where UNPol received reports of a large crowd trying to force
its way in to the counting station of the Muapitine Polling Centre. UNPol
responded and dispersed crowd with no injuries and no damage to the Polling Centre.
The Elections Security Plan is currently in phase four,
which covers the period after elections. UNPOL and PNTL remain in their
allocated sectors until after the results are announced. Their tasks include
transporting sensitive ballot materials and responding to any unrest that may
arise in connection with the results.
The Police advise that you should avoid traveling during the
night to the most affected areas. Contact the police if you see anything
suspicious or any kind of problems, and avoid remaining near any disturbances.
Call 112 or 7230365 to contact the police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
