This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to
provide you with information about the security situation around the country.
The security situation in Timor-Leste as a whole has been
calm, but the situation in Viqueque and Metinaro remains tense.
Today in Dili, UNPol attended six incidents. These included
an incident in Metinaro, where rocks were thrown at a passing bus. Police
brought the situation under control and are monitoring the area. One person was
injured in the attack and has been transported to Dili hospital.
Early this morning, a gang fight took place in Pantai
Kelapa. Police attended and dispersed the gangs. Three people were injured in
the fight, including a 29-year-old man who is in a critical condition after
being stabbed in the back.
Last night in Metinaro, three houses in the vicinity of the
IDP camp were set on fire. Formed Police Units and the International Security
Force (ISF) responded and prevented the incident from escalating.
A total of four people were arrested in Dili district
yesterday, three for rock throwing in Metinaro and one for rock throwing in a separate
incident in Bebonuk.
Yesterday in Viqueque, a 25-year-old man was assaulted in
Ailembata village. National police (PNTL) arrested three suspects in connection
with the assault, and were intending to transport them to Baucau court today.
In Viqueque town, supporters of a political party attempted to block the road
outside of their party headquarters at around 1600hrs, but police attended the
scene and persuaded them to remove the road block.
In Lautem yesterday, rocks were thrown at the district administrator’s
office during a political protest in Los Palos. Police responded quickly to
stop the throwing, and the remainder of the demonstration was peaceful. There
were no reports of any injuries or damage to property.
Two days ago in Baucau, PNTL received a report of a case of
arson in Samalari village. Police are investigating.
United Nations police officers in conjunction with the PNTL
and the ISF remain fully deployed to respond to any disturbances that may
emerge.
