The security situation in Timor-Leste has been generally
calm, although there has been a large explosion in Dili.
On Thursday night in Dili, there was a large explosion in
the Defence Cooperation Programme (DCP) building near the Australian Embassy.
The explosion damaged windows of the DCP compound and is thought to have been
caused by a grenade. There were no reports of any injuries, and forensic
investigators are examining the crime scene.
Separately, one person was arrested on Thursday night in
Dili for assault.
Earlier today in Dili, UNPol attended seven incidents,
including an alleged assault that took place near the Seaport. Both suspect and
victim were treated in Dili hospital for minor injuries.
On Thursday in Bobonaro, police arrested a 15-year-old boy
in Coelima village in connection with an arson attack that took place on 3
October 2007 in Samorapo village.
Early Thursday morning, four people were stopped at a PNTL
checkpoint near Viqueque town and were found to be carrying knives or machetes.
The weapons were seized and all four people received official warnings from the
police.
