UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 09 October 2007



This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about the security situation around the country.

The security situation in Timor-Leste has been generally calm.

Earlier today in Dili, UNPol attended five incidents, including an assault in which a 50-year-old woman sustained minor injuries to her wrist. Police arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of committing the assault.

Dili remained generally calm on Monday, although there were minor incidents of rock throwing in Bebonuk and Mercado Lama. Police arrested two people for assault, and a further 12 people were brought back to Dili District Headquarters for identification purposes.

On Monday in Liquica, a 40-year-old man threatened his wife with a machete and injured his seven-year-old daughter during a domestic dispute in Mausoi sub-village. The daughter was taken to Liquica hospital, and the suspect is now on the run.

The Police advise to avoid travelling during the night to the most affected areas. Please report any suspicious activities. You can call 112 or 7230365 to contact the police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
