UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 11 January 2008



UNPol Daily Security Briefing 11 January 2008 -  The security situation in Timor-Leste has been calm.

Today in Dili, police responded to two incidents, both of which were minor traffic accidents. 

On Thursday in Dili, the security situation in Dili remained calm. Police arrested one man for assault and detained another man for identification purposes.

An incident of arson took place on Thursday in Samalete village, Ermera district, when three men from the village set fire to the house of a 60-year-old man. The motives for the attack are not yet known. Police are investigating.

On Wednesday in Ainaro, six people wearing masks and carrying swords held up a car in the vicinity of Cassa-Hatu-Udo and stole some bags containing around $1000 in cash. The windscreen of the car was smashed during the robbery, but there were no reports of any injuries. 

Heavy rainfall continues in many parts of Timor-Leste, particularly in the western districts. Motorists are advised to be cautious when driving. Day time travel is advised in the affected areas unless you are forced to travel by night. 

The police advise to avoid travelling during the night to the most affected areas. Please report any suspicious activities.  You can call 112 or 7230365 to contact the police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
