UNPol Daily Security Briefing 21 January 2008 - This is a
broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about
the security situation around the country.
The security situation in Timor-Leste has been calm. Today
in Dili, police attended four incidents, including a dispute over land near
Becora Market Bridge where a large crowd had gathered. The Community Policing
Officer of Becora and the Suco chief went to Becora police station to solve the
matter. There was no fighting.
Early this morning in Dili, police received a report of a
warehouse on fire in the Comoro area. The fire was soon extinguished and only
parts of the warehouse were damaged. The cause of the fire is as yet unknown,
and police are investigating further.
There are no reports of any serious security incidents
having taken place yesterday in the districts.
Heavy rainfall continues in many parts of Timor-Leste,
particularly in the western districts. Motorists are advised to be cautious
when driving. Day time travel is advised in the affected areas unless you are
forced to travel by night.
The police advise to avoid travelling during the night to
the most affected areas. Please report any suspicious activities. You can call 112 or 7230365 to contact the
