UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 19 February 2007

Yesterday, the police arrested 12 people involved in fightings at Kampung Baru, Kampung Merdeka, Fatuhada Bairro Pite and Kampung Alor. The detainees were charged with possession of illegal weapon and riotous behavior. More than 50 traditional weapons, including machetes, sling shots, arrows and one M16 Bayonet were seized during the police operations.

The police and bombeiros attended an arson case in Bairro Pite, where a house was set on fire twice and extinguished the blaze.

Today, fightings were reported in Bairro Pite, Mercado Lama, Kampung Alor and Hudilaran. The Police responded all these incidents and restored calm and peace.

UNPols continues the investigations for the five escapees of the Becora Prison. If you have any information that may help the police on their searches call 112 or 7230365.

We request people to remain calm and avoid the conflict and problematic areas. Call the police whenever you suspect some incident is about to happen or as soon as possible, giving the most accurate information. Help us to keep your community a safe place.
