UNPol Daily Security Briefing 13 December 2007 - This is a
broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about
the security situation around the country. The security situation in
Timor-Leste is generally calm.
Today in Dili, police attended four incidents, including an
incident where three youths threw rocks at a shop after the owner refused to
give them money. The youths fled upon the arrival of the police.
On Wednesday afternoon in Dili, one person was injured after
a fight in the Comoro area. Police used tear gas and warning shots to disperse
the crowds, and the situation returned to normal at around 2000hrs.
On Wednesday in Viqueque, fighting broke out in the village
of Vesuro after a disagreement over gambling. Police arrested 14 people.
The UN Secretary-General and the Australian Prime Minister
Kevin Rudd will both be arriving in Timor-Leste tomorrow, and there will be a
corresponding increased security presence in the capital. Please be alert for fast-moving
convoys and motorcades whilst using the roads.
The police advise to avoid travelling during the night to
the most affected areas. Please report any suspicious activities. You can call 112 or 7230365 to contact the
