UNPol Daily Security Briefing 9 January 2008 - This is a
broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about
the security situation around the country.
The security situation in Timor-Leste has been calm.
Today in Dili, police responded to six incidents, including
a case of domestic violence in Vila Verde. Separately, a local 30-year-old man
discovered an unexploded grenade on his property in Delta 1, and handed it over
to police.
Yesterday (Tuesday) evening, police managed to locate two
fishermen from Atauro who were reported as having gone missing whilst
travelling by boat from Dili to Atauro. After a search operation involving two
helicopters and police in Liquica and Dili districts, maritime police
discovered that the two fishermen had suffered engine trouble and had come
ashore safely in Metinaro.
Yesterday in Dili, police arrested a total of twelve people:
nine for assault, one for causing damage to property, one for rock throwing,
and the final arrest was the execution of an arrest warrant.
The police advise to avoid travelling during the night to
