This site was inspired by the events that culminated in the tragic disintegration of the rule of law in 2006. UNPol was remobilised in response to the political violence and social tensions and this is an archive of the regular security reports.

UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 10 January 2008

UNPol Daily Security Briefing 10 January 2008 - This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about the security situation around the country.

The security situation in Timor-Leste has been calm.

Today in Dili, police responded to five incidents, none of which were serious.

Yesterday (Wednesday) in Dili, police arrested seven people: four for rock throwing, one for attempted murder, and one in relation to a public disturbance. The remaining arrest was the execution of an outstanding arrest warrant. The security situation in Dili last night was mostly calm.

On Wednesday in Baucau, a thirty-one-year-old man was arrested for threatening a police officer in Tirilolo New Town.

Community police officers are visiting the Kunain and Matai in Covalima district with a view to helping prevent further outbreaks of violence. Land boundary disputes, and ethnic, linguistic and political differences, have been a longstanding cause of tension between the two communities.

The police advise to avoid travelling during the night to the most affected areas. Please report any suspicious activities.  You can call 112 or 7230365 to contact the police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
