UNPol Daily Security Briefing 24 January 2008 - This is a
broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about
the security situation around the country.
The security situation in Timor-Leste has been calm. Today
in Dili, police attended three confirmed incidents, none of which were serious.
Last night in Dili, police responded to a report of a fight
between two gangs in the Comoro area. Police brought the situation under
control, arresting a twenty-seven-year-old man in the process. One sling shot
and two darts were recovered. There were no reports of any injuries.
On Wednesday police responded to a report of a fight between
two men who were arguing over a piece of land in Manutasi, Ainaro district. One
of the men sustained an injury to his ribs and was taken to Ainaro hospital.
Heavy rainfall continues in many parts of Timor-Leste,
particularly in the western districts. Motorists are advised to be cautious
when driving. Day time travel is advised in the affected areas unless you are
forced to travel by night.
The police advise to avoid travelling during the night to
