UNPol Daily Security Briefing 23 January 2008 - This is a
broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about
the security situation around the country.
The security situation in Timor-Leste has generally been
calm.
Today in Dili, police attended five incidents, including a
fight between youths near Kampung Marinir School. The aggressors fled upon the
arrival of the police. There were no reports of any injuries.
Last night in Dili, the security situation was mostly calm.
Police arrested three people on suspicion of assault.
On Tuesday in Liquica district, a 13-year old girl
discovered a dead body in Darubata sub-village. Police attended the scene and
identified the body as a 50-year-old man from Darubata. An investigation is
underway.
On Tuesday in Baucau district, PNTL officers arrested four
men for erecting an illegal road block on the road between Dili and Baucau near
Triloka village.
Heavy rainfall continues in many parts of Timor-Leste,
particularly in the western districts. Motorists are advised to be cautious
when driving. Day time travel is advised in the affected areas unless you are
forced to travel by night.
The police advise to avoid travelling during the night to
the most affected areas. Please report any suspicious activities. You can call 112 or 7230365 to contact the
