UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 25 February 2007



The present day has been calm in Dili, with no major incidents reported.

Yesterday at 0730am, a group of people from the airport IDP camp made a rode block at the entrance of the airport to grieve their friend's death. UNPol attended the incident and cleared the road. Later that morning, there was a case of arson in Kampung Merdeka. The police and Bombeiros attended and extinguished the fire.

In Cova Lima, a couple was attacked by a goup of unidentified people. As a consequence of the attack, the female died and the man got severe injuries. The reasons for the attck are still unknown, but the police is already investigating the case.

Whenever you see that a fight or a rock thoring incident is going to happen call the free emergency number and inform the police, giving important details, such as the exact location of the incident, the number of people involved and if possible, what is their intention.
