UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 24 February 2007



The security situation in Dili is under control with fewer disturbances than the ones registered on the last days, but still volatile.

One of the injured persons in the incident at Airport IDP camp, involving ISF, died today in National Hospital. Some populars attacked the police officers at the hospital.

During the day the distribution and selling of rice ocorred without any disturbances, with UNPol and ISF providing security to the transport and selling places

One person died and another was severely injured in a traffic accident that occured yesterday night in Beto Timur when the driver lost control of the motorcycle and hit a electric pole.

Some rock throwing incidents were reported in Vila Verde and Bairo Pite, but as police attended the rowdies fled away. In the last 24 hrs, 13 people have been arrested for possession of offensive weapon.

In Liquica, Manugo Village, a "kiosk" was set on fire using gasoline. No one was injured and UNPol is already investigating the crime.From Ermera, it was reported an accident involving a truck, which fell down on the side of the road. A 70 year old timorese male died and 10 passegens sustained injuries.
