UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 26 November 2006

This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about the security situation around the country

Sunday, November 26th– PM A small group of people tried to attack the IDP’s, inside the Hospital camp, prompt response from UNPOL prevented further confrontation. During the evening, damaged property and fighting were reported in Taibesse market, in a sequence related to martial art disputes. Also, during that period, in Comoro, Becora, and in Santa Cruz some rock throwing and fightings within rival groups took place.

Yesterday, two traffic accidents in Colmera and in Lahane Timur caused minor injuries to two people. Today morning, two rock-throwing incidents, a traffic accident and one theft was reported. Outside Dili, the situation is reported has being calm.

UNPol announces that the 112 emergency line has been reinstalled. From now on everyone is able to contact the police from a public or private phone without any costs. The call is free and the number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We’ll continue to answer the calls to National Operations Center, at 7230365. This has been a daily broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste, for the people of Timor-Leste.
