Yesterday afternoon, a rock throwing incident was reported in the neighborhood of Obrigado IDP camp. The UNPol attended and took knowledge that the responsible group of youths had displaced at their arrival.
Two large groups in a strained situation in Comoro’s bridge vicinity were sighted by UNPol. The Malaysian FPU prevented confrontation and granted the security in the area. Five gunshots were reported last night in Bairro Grilos. The UNpol is investigating the case.
During today’s afternoon there were reports of illegal check points in Vila Verde and in Beccora. Also in Beccora, during the Peace Procession March, participating youths threw rocks at several UNPol members, who were walking along the march.
As of this security update, the outlying Districts remain calm.
Today, UNPol did their first deployment outside Dili. The first three UNPol officers were deployed to Oecussi, where both the Acting SRSG, Mr.Finn Reske-Nielsen, and the Acting Police Commissioner, Mr. Antero Lopes, had the chance to explain the role of UNPol in Timor-Leste, and the expectations for their presence. Apart from logistics difficulties, the Police Commissioner was very proud to see that PNTL are working very well both in the sub-districts stations as in the Border Patrol Unit.
