This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to
provide you with information about the security situation around the country.
The security situation across the country has been generally
calm.
Today in Dili, UNPol conducted 43 patrols and were required
to attend to four incidents. No major incidents were reported.
In Bobonaro, an UNPol investigation team is today looking
into reports that a man is missing after a fight between rival supporters in
Lasau village on 11 June 2007. Initial reports suggested that only three people
were injured in the fight and that their injuries were minor. There is
currently no evidence to support rumours that the missing man has died from his
injuries.
Yesterday in Dili, 26 people were arrested in connection
with illegal gambling in a building close to the Audian hotel. One of the
arrested was charged and the rest were briefly detained for identification.
In Baucau yesterday, two men threw stones at supporters
returning to Venilale sub-district after a political rally. The men were
arrested by police accompanying the convoy of supporters. No damage or injuries
have been reported.
Campaigning continues across the country. Twelve political
rallies were scheduled to take place today, and as yet there have been no
reports of any associated security incidents.
The Police advise to avoid traveling during the night to the
most affected areas. Report any suspicious activities and avoid traveling the
areas affected by disturbances. Call 112 or 7230365 to contact the police 24
hours a day, seven days a week.
