This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to
provide you with information about the security situation around the country.
The security situation in Dili has been calm, although there
have been localized disturbances in Fatuhada and Bairo Pite.
Today in Dili, UNPol conducted 41 patrols and were required
to attend to eight incidents. These included a fight in Fatuhada between rival
groups at around 0940hrs. The groups dispersed when UNPol arrived. Similarly,
UNPol received reports of rock-throwing in Bairo Pite at around 1020hrs. These
groups also dispersed with the arrival of UNPol.
Separately, at 1030hrs at Bebora warehouse number one, a
World Food Programme (WFP) employee got stuck between a metal container and a
truck that was allegedly reversing. The injured person was taken to the United
Nations clinic by WFP staff.
Yesterday in Dili, at about 2215hrs, UNPol and a Formed
Police Unit responded to reports of a fight in Fatuhada in front of Landmark
Supermarket. Two people were arrested, and one UNPol vehicle was damaged by
rock-throwing.
Also yesterday, UNPol reported providing security to eight
political rallies in the districts of Aileu, Ainaro, Baucau and Manufahi. There
were no reports of any incidents related to these campaigns. There was,
however, an incident one day previously in Ermera, when supporters of one party
were attacked by 30 unknown assailants after a rally. Two people received minor
injuries, and UNPol / PNTL are investigating.
The Police advise to avoid traveling during the night to the
most affected areas. Report any suspicious activities and avoid traveling the areas affected by disturbances. Call 112
or 7230365 to contact the police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
