UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 27 December 2006

Wednesday, December 27, 2006 The offender of the stabbing that occurred on the 25th has handed himself into an UNPol unit. During yesterday afternoon, one worker of IDP camp in Hera was restrained from leaving the camp due to a dispute regarding payment of salaries. The police managed to mediate the solution. In Comoro, a rock throwing incident against a Thai Restaurant, caused damaged property.

An assault and rock throwing incident in Delta 3 area during the night left two men with minor injuries and one UNPol vehicle with a crashed window.

A large fighting in Santa Cruz area continued to disrupt the environment. Although some weapons, including swords and machetes were sighted, no injuries were reported. One person was arrested for fighting. During the night the police with ADF help assured foot patrols in the area to prevent further incidents.

The Police assured security at the prime minister residence during the annual event that gathered more than 500 children and high individualities.

In Baucau, the Police seized 100 packages of tobacco that were illegally brought into national territory by boat.
