This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to
provide you with information about the security situation around the country.
The situation in Dili has been calm over the past 24 hours.
Today UNPOL attended nine incidents. The only significant
disturbance was a rock fight between a group of young men and students at the
Junior High School in Fatumeta. UNPOL dispersed the crowd and there ere no
serious injuries. By 4pm today, UNPOL had conducted a total of 37 patrols.
In the districts, an assault case has been reported at a
village in Bobonaro. An elderly man and a five-year-old girl were injured in a
knife attack when a gang of five men entered their home. Both victims have been
sent to Maliana hospital.
In Viqueque, supporters of Presidential candidate
Ramos-Horta were stoned in the village of Biatsu. In a subsequent scuffle
between supporters and villagers, one of the supporters was injured and has
been taken to Viqueque hospital.
Back in Dili, the UNPOL Vulnerable Persons Unit is planning
a meeting with the Prosecutor to discuss legal frameworks around domestic
violence, child victims, and the right to make a complaint. Clarification of
the age of consent and sexual crimes against minors will also be sought.
The Police advise that you should avoid traveling during the
night to the most affected areas. Contact the police if you see anything
suspicious or any kind of problems, and avoid remaining near any disturbances.
