UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 28 May 2007



This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about the security situation around the country.

The security situation in Dili and around the country has been quiet over the last 24 hours.

In Dili, UNPol today attended a total of five incidents, four of which were minor traffic accidents. There was also a report of fight in Tasi Tolu, although UNPol officers did not find anything suspicious when they arrived on the scene.

Yesterday in the Bacau, UNPOL and PNTL arrested two suspects for illegal fishing in Laga subdistrict using a homemade bomb. In Ermera, a fire was started accidentally, destroying twenty shops and shanties at the market.

Inquiries are continuing into the shooting of PNTL officer in Manufahi. Witnesses have been located and debriefed by the Major Crimes Investigation Unit, which continues to make progress in conjunction with local UNPol.

The Police advise to avoid traveling during the night to the most affected areas. Report any suspicious activities and avoid traveling the areas affected by disturbances. Call 112 or 7230365 to contact the police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
