This site was inspired by the events that culminated in the tragic disintegration of the rule of law in 2006. UNPol was remobilised in response to the political violence and social tensions and this is an archive of the regular security reports.

UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 15 March 2007

The situation in Dili has remained relatively stable over the past 24 hours. There were no incidents of note today.

Yesterday evening, an unconscious woman was found by ISF and transported by UNPoL to the Bairo Pite Clinic for treatment. It was later discovered that the woman was a victim of domestic violence. Her husband has since been apprehended and sent to Dili Detention Centre for assault and domestic violence.

Another attempt at entering the World Food Programme warehouse in Bebora was made after midnight. UNPoL and FPU responded immediately and were able to control the situation. Four suspects were arrested.

The Police advise that you should avoid traveling during the night to the most affected areas. Contact the police if you see anything suspicious or any kind of problems, and avoid remaining near any disturbances. Call 112 or 7230365 to contact the police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This has been a daily broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste, for the people of Timor-Leste
