The situation in Dili has remained relatively stable over
the past 24 hours.
Today, the prompt response by UNPoL to a report of rock
throwing in Biro Pite ensured that the situation was brought under control
without any arrest or injury.
There were four separate attempts made late yesterday
evening and early this morning to gain entry to the World Food Programme
warehouse in Bebora. The first incident was brought under control by UNPoL who
was working with POR-FPU. Eighteen (18) people were arrested.
The second incident occurred just after midnight. Two
arrests were made. Shortly after, the third attempt was made by another 20
people. POR-FPU and PAK-FPU attended this and three arrests were made. The last
attempt was made after an hour and dealt with by POR-FPU. A further two persons
were arrested, bringing the total number of arrests to 25.
The Police advise that you should avoid traveling during the
night to the most affected areas. Contact the police if you see anything
suspicious or any kind of problems, and avoid remaining near any disturbances.
