UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 16 January 2008



UNPOL Daily Security Briefing 16 January 2008 - This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about the security situation around the country.

The security situation in Timor-Leste has been calm. Today in Dili, police responded to two incidents, which were both minor traffic accidents.

On Tuesday in Dili, police, assisted by the ISF, responded to reports of a confrontation between two gangs in Tasi Tolu. Seven men were arrested after the clash. There are no reports of any serious injuries.

There are no reports of any serious security incidents having taken place in the districts yesterday.

Heavy rainfall continues in many parts of Timor-Leste, particularly in the western districts. Motorists are advised to be cautious when driving. Day time travel is advised in the affected areas unless you are forced to travel by night. 

The police advise to avoid travelling during the night to the most affected areas. Please report any suspicious activities.  You can call 112 or 7230365 to contact the police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
