This site was inspired by the events that culminated in the tragic disintegration of the rule of law in 2006. UNPol was remobilised in response to the political violence and social tensions and this is an archive of the regular security reports.

UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 15 January 2008

UNPol Daily Security Briefing 15 January 2008 - This is a broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about the security situation around the country.

The security situation in Timor-Leste has been calm. Today in Dili, police responded to four incidents, three of which were confirmed.

They included a fight in Bairo Pite. The suspects fled upon the arrival of the police, and there were no reports of any injuries.

On Monday morning in Ermera town, police received reports of gunfire in the Erasui area. Timorese National Police (PNTL) Taskforce officers responded, and found no evidence of weapons having been fired. However, four people were arrested for possession of traditional weapons in a surcharged environment. They are investigating further.

The theatre group Bibi Bulak has been holding a five-day civic education programme in Manufahi between 11 and 15 January. UNPol and the PNTL have been providing security for the events, which have so far all taken place without incident.

Heavy rainfall continues in many parts of Timor-Leste, particularly in the western districts. Motorists are advised to be cautious when driving. Day time travel is advised in the affected areas unless you are forced to travel by night.

The police advise to avoid travelling during the night to the most affected areas. Please report any suspicious activities.  You can call 112 or 7230365 to contact the police 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
