UNPol Daily Security Briefing 22 November 2007 - This is a
broadcast of the UN Police in Timor-Leste to provide you with information about
the security situation in Timor-Leste.
The security situation in Timor-Leste is generally calm.
Today in Dili, UNPol attended seven incidents, including a
minor assault in Becora Camea Primary School and an attempted extortion by a
youth in Taibisse market. None of the incidents were serious.
Major Alfredo Reinado held a parade for his supporters in
the Gleno, Ermera this morning, which passed without incident.
On Wednesday in Uatolari district of Viqueque, a member of
the F-FDTL reportedly fired several shots in the direction of several road
workers, and then also in the vicinity of the local police station. Police
brought the situation under control and are now investigating the incident.
Sporadic incidents of rock throwing and fighting took place
in Dili on Wednesday night. 8 people were arrested in relation to these
incidents, and a further five were arrested for various other offences.
At 1900hrs tonight, Radio Timor-Leste will host a debate on
security. Listeners will be able to phone in and ask the participants questions
about the role of the UN Police, the National Police, and the international security
forces.
The police advise to avoid travelling during the night to
