The situation in Dili remains calm, although there was some
fighting in the Don Bosco area of Kampung Baru yesterday.
Today, UNPOL attended to a total of eight incidents. Early
this morning, the body of an elderly lady was discovered near Behau beach. No
foul play is suspected. Later, at 1008hrs, UNPOL and ISF forces attended to
reports of a house on fire in Tasi Tolu, and brought the fire under control
before the arrival of the Bombeiros. One person suffered major injuries and
three people minor injuries in the blaze. All four were taken to Dili hospital.
The fire is thought to have been caused accidentally.
Yesterday afternoon, UNPOL responded to a report that two
groups were fighting in the Don Bosco area of Kampung Baru. Upon arrival, the
Portuguese formed police unit discovered that two houses and a shed were on
fire. They dispersed the fighting groups and activated the Bombeiros, who
extinguished the fires. There are no reports of any injuries as a result of the
fight or the fires, and one person was arrested.
Separately, at approximately 1514hrs, UNPOL received reports
of a robbery of electronics equipment from a shop in Colmera. They arrived in
the scene and later arrested one suspect, who has since been charged with
robbery.
The National Investigation Unit has obtained four witness
statements in the case of a man killed in Vila Verde last October. The
statements and case-related information will shortly be submitted to the Prosecutor.
In addition, the Major Crime Investigation Unit has initiated a new inquiry
into to the theft of rice.
Outside of Dili, nine suspects were arrested in Baucau in
relation to reports of fighting on 19 March. In Maliana, a 14-year-old missing
girl was found by UNPOL. She was safe and in good health.
The Police advise that you should avoid traveling during the
night to the most affected areas. Contact the police if you see anything
suspicious or any kind of problems, and avoid remaining near any disturbances.
