UNPol in East Timor Security Briefing 15 January 2007



The situation in Dili is tensed with several reports of fights and rock throwing incidents in Bidau Lecidere, Bebonuk, Comoro, Mascarinas, Bairo Pite and Kampong Alor.

The violence at Kampong Alor continued yesterday night with a group of 50 – 60 people gathering with poles. They were also suspected to have slingshots in their presence. Patrols and FPU who attended the scene found a practice hand grenade, an improvised pistol, an axe, scissors, wooden slingshots and darts, wire cutters and pliers in the possession of a young Timorese male and placed him under arrest.

Comoro Sub-District has commenced the provision of police presence at the Comoro Market between 24h daily, where the police post is being refurbished.

Caicoli, Comoro, Becora, Bidau, Pentai Kelapa and Airport, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Mercado-Lama and Hera every day of the week, from 8am to 11pm.

Seaport and Taci Tolu from 09am and 07 am until 5pm, very day of the week.
